At R&R Dance Studio, our mission has always been to grow our dancers and provide them with as many tools in their “dancer toolbox” as possible—helping them become the most well-rounded performers they can be.

When two of our dancers won full scholarships to an Acrobatic Arts convention back in January, we opened the opportunity to any students willing to travel to Phoenix to attend. We were thrilled to bring an impressive 14 dancers to this event!

The convention, hosted by Acrobatic Arts, marked the inaugural stop of their first-ever U.S. tour. Acrobatic Arts is known internationally for its acrobatics training and certification programs, which promote safe and stunning acrobatics in dance education.

Over three exciting days, our dancers trained in classes led by icons of the dance and acrobatics industry—with Cirque du Soleil talent scouts also in attendance! Classes included acro, tumbling, limbering, variations, handstands, across the floor, jumps, leaps, turns, breaking, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, Broadway, partnering, conditioning, flexibility, and contortion.

Our dancers and acro instructor learned so much and were incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Many of our students received “call outs” from faculty members—meaning their hard work and artistry stood out among rooms of over 100 dancers! We’re also thrilled to share that Junior dancer Aubrey Daniels received a partial scholarship to return next year!

Later this year, our acro instructor Kayla McKinley will complete her Acrobatic Arts Certification, which will allow us to offer even more advanced acro training to our dancers.

If you caught our last blog post, you’ll know the highlight of the weekend was watching six of our dancers make their professional stage debut in TEMPUS by Derek Piquette. The show was everything we hoped for and more—an awe-inspiring blend of storytelling and acrobatics. Seeing our students share the stage with such powerhouse professionals was truly a proud and emotional moment.

We are beyond proud of all our dancers who attended the convention. Your dedication to your training, your openness to learning in a new environment, and your drive to grow as artists are truly inspiring.

And to our TEMPUS ensemble members—your commitment to the audition process and being selected out of over 400 dancers says it all. You continue to amaze us with your determination and heart.

Congratulations, R&R dancers—you make us proud every single day!
